They are now talking anywhere from 2 to 9 inches by morning, so lets consider putting this game off to the 20th. I have everything ready to go, but would rather miss a game than have somebody hurt on the road trying to get here. I'll call Dave and let him know in the morning. Phillip, please reply to let me know that you got the message. Jim, hope you can make it on the 20th. After that one, I hope to get a first game of Hostile Realms on the table, hoping to have enough troops ready to play a short game or two. I need to work on that, Typhon and Erin games off and on between now and May so I'm ready to run these at the Drums event near Toledo.
The store closed early today, and I understand they are probably going to be closed on saturday the 6th of Feb, so I'm officially postponing the game for the 20th. Hope everone has some minis around the house to paint as that is what I will be doing next to the fireplace.
After that horrible drive home last night I'm certainly not going anywhere and I always have plenty of minis to paint. I just finished up my US riflemen so now I just have to decide on one of a million other projects to start on.
Weather man is playing with plans again. All I can say is watch and play it safe. If it is so bad I wont want to go, I'll post on friday. I'm working on a random arty support thing, since most scenarios dont include off table arty support but make some reference to it - may have been a first edition Point of Attack: Blitzkrieg thing that didnt carry over to the second edition. Also trying to finish a few planes for each side before the weekend so we can add a bit of new stuff to the game with air support. Rules in the book are fairly simple, but getting them on the table and getting to use them are not the same thing. French particularly had a bad time with getting air support historically, but I do have both fighters and fighter bombers for that once-in-a-while opportunity to do some harm to the Blitzkriegers. Germans are usually much more likely of seeing a Stuka or two, along with a chance for some fighter cover. I've needed to finish these for a while so setting Saturday as a target will help move me in that direction.
Also, work progresses on my 15mm fantasy troops for the Hostile Realms system, so I hope to be ready to put that on the table for March 7th. I got some very interesting orc chariots that should be done in plenty of time, just need to balance my time so I get a pretty good balance of orcs and dwarves ready. Should be able to meet the goal of 12 units plus command and at least one wizard on each side ready by then. May not have the flocking done, but they will be playable.
Great game today. David and I played, I had the French counterattack and Dave defended. In over 4 hours of play, we basically played to a draw. Could have gone on a bit longer, but looking it over at 3:00 pm, it didnt look good for either of us to really turn it into a total victory. I had taken all the village sections north of the river, but still had a last town section south of the river to take to make a win, and this pesky platoon of German Mk II tanks were heading for the town of Lislet that I held with an HMG platoon, and I still had some infantry in reach to go back and hold if needed, and still had a battery of 25mm AT guns that could have deployed to help defend the town. Pretty much a full company of French light H-35 tanks had been destroyed on that flank, but overall I was still in pretty good shape. The first German losses were the battery of 88s, the one thing that should have kept my armor at bay. Instead, my infantry pushed ahead and eliminated them in close combat.
We are planning for the Hostile Realms Piquet fantasy game for the 7th of March.
Looking ahead a bit, I want to run the opening moves at Gettysburg on July 3rd with Piquet Hallowed Grounds rules, and probably a WW2 early war scenario between that and the Disposable Heroes game I'm planning to run next. Watch here for details. I'm putting the finishing touches to my WW2 British micro-armor, as well as the Fallschirmjaegers, and have started collecting US and Russian troops as well, hoping to be able to move to later periods of WW2 by the end of the year. Right now, I'm finishing up my 6mm Baccus ACW troops, and should have the last 11 Confederate regiments done this week, then wrap up the Confederate cav, plus just a few more dismounted Yankee cav units. The Gettysburg scenario I will use needs 8 Union dismounted cav units and much of the Iron Brigade, and I'm nearly ready to go with it, so it should be an interesting scenario. I can set it up for 4 to 5 players if anyone wants to join in. The Piquet WW2 scenario will dictate how many command groups, which then dictates how many players can participate.
I'll be in on the 14th hoping to test a scenario I plan to run at Advance The Colors, German Fallschirmjaegers drop in on a quiet Dutch village in May 1940. 1/285th scale minis, Piquet Point of Attack: Blitzkrieg rules, platoon scale. Testing out a scenario from the scenario book, In the Clutches of Eagles, with some modification to fit in with the Piquet system and make it a decent convention game, so need some play time and feedback. Thanks for your help.
